- Developer Mort Balaban submitted a request to allow increased denisty on a piece of central-area village land he would like to buy to build a four-story, 15-unit apartment building. His proposal also depends on a good price for the 12,000 square feet of land. In return he promises to rent at affordable rates as devined last spring by the village's housing commission. The process of getting approval will likely be protracted. Balaban does not support the village's proposed tear-down tax, even if the proceeds are used to support projects for affordable housing. Comments by Peter Futzmer, chairman of Wilmette's Historic Preservation Commission, Rose Dubin, former chair of the Wilmette Housing Commission, Development Director Lisa Roberts, Village trustees Alan Watson, Lali Watt, Joanne Aggens and Mari Terman and John Levin, head of the boar's Land Use Committee.
