- A heated discussion by members of the village board and by residents of Wilmette occurred at the meeting of the board of trustees of Wilmette Tuesday evening. Members of the Southeast Wilmette Improvement Association protested the actions of Chicago speculators who buy property in Wilmette and build tenements. N.M. Cromholn is president of the organization. C. F. Goodrich, 526 Greenleaf Ave., is treasurer. Mr. George English presided at the meeting in the absence of President John D. Couffer. Discussion was permiitted between board members and the property holders. Attorney Charles H. Jackson, village attorney, gave the trustees the legal status of the question. Complaints were directed against Ward T. Huston of 125 Clark St., Chicago, owner of the southeast corner of Sixth street and Greenleaf avenue. Petitions were also presented to improve service on the Milwaukee Electric railroad. Trustee Arthur Sibold presented an ordinance to restrain drivers for hire from soliciting patronage on the platforms of the railroads. The matter of a new elevated train station was not taken up by the trustees. Members of the board who were present were George English, J.P. Gathercoal, J.F. Stone, L.E. Wade, George H. Hulst and Arthur Sibold.
