Notes
Wilmette has won a federal grant for $20,000 to replace the ash trees killed by the Emerald Ash Borer insect. Wilmette forester Kevin Sorby said the urban reforestation grant was the maximum the village could received based on population, and came from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and the United States Department of Agriculture. This amount will allow Wilmette to buy about 90 trees to be planted this spring. Species such as swamp, white or bur oaks, sugar maples and sweet gum trees, hackberry and bald cypress will be chosen.
