Chicago Dive Club, led by local divers Michael Manhard (Loyola Academy ‘11), Jordan Sacks (New Trier ‘12), Michael Nash (Loyola Academy ‘12), Michelle Miller (Loyola Academy ’11), Caroline Grant (New Trier ‘12), Tara Boyle (New Trier ‘11), Sydney Tan (New Trier ’13) and Juliette Corboy (North Shore Country Day ‘13) teamed together to win the USA Diving Junior Olympic Region 5 Championship at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis.

Manhard, Sacks and Nash qualified for the boys 16-18 Zone Championship on both 1- and 3-meter springboard, July 9-12 at the University of Missouri. In the 16-18 girls competition, Grant advanced in the 3-meter and Corboy in the 1- and 3-meter springboard.

In the 14-15 division, Ryan Nash (Loyola Academy ‘15) won the 3-meter and qualified for the Zone Championships in the 1-meter. In the 12-13 boys division, Christopher Canning Jr. (St. Joseph/Wilmette) qualified in three events by finishing second in the 1- and 3-meter springboard and winning the platform competition.

In the 11 and under girls, Jessie Creed (Christian Heritage Academy/Northfield) advanced in all three events and won the 3-meter springborad and platform. Harel Anolick, Katherine Budde, Henry Goodman, Trevor Nelson and Maxim Royzen also advanced to the Zone Championship.

Other local divers who competed at regional included Sophie Conley and Andrea Gouvea of Chicago Dive, and Olivia Loucks (New Trier ‘12) and Katie Rourke (Loyola Academy ’15) from Glenbrook Aquatics.

In the team competition, Chicago Dive defeated second-place Jayhawk Diving 242-132. The competition featured 163 divers from nine states and 17 different teams.

Chicago Dive is coached by Northwestern diving coach Alik Sarkisian and assisted by former Illinois champion Dan Rybalko and one-time New Trier All-American Patrick Noyes.

All-Americans

The National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association has named several area athletes to the All-American Diving Team.

Manhard, of Glencoe, Glenbrook South senior Adam Klosowiak and Sacks, of Wilmette, were named to the boys team. Corboy, of Winnetka, was selected for the girls team.

At last winter’s IHSA State Meet, Manhard placed third, Sack took fourth and Klosowiak came in ninth. At the girls State Meet last fall, Corboy finished sixth.

Team members are nominated basked on a minimum score of 375 points and degree of difficulty for optional dives of 13.3 for boys, or 13.0 for girls. Divers who place top six at their respective state meets and meet the minimum degree of difficulty may also apply for consideration.
