Mrs. Herman J. Hall gave her third and last talk to the Women's Library club Thursday afternoon on the subject, "The American Triad, Inness, Whistler and Sargent."
Mesdames Holbroke, Glasner and Martin had charge of the flowers at the memorial service of Dr. Darling Wednesday, the flowers being sent to the Augustana hospitals afterwards.
The Glencoe Public Library is now located in the village hall. Hours are Monday, 3 to 5 p.m.; Friday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.; Saturday 7 to 9 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew MacLeish left last week to spend several weeks in the south. Miss Isabel MacLeish, a student at the Girton school, will board at the school during their absence.
Miss Ruth Collins, who has classes in dancing in Glencoe and Winnetka, has formed a class in Kenilworth. The class will be held at the club house on Wednesday evenings, beginning Feb. 19, at 8 o'clock.
Fire started in a house owned by Mr. Gordon Ramsey on the corner of Hazel and Sheridan road Saturday afternoon, Feb. 15. The Glencoe volunteer fire department was called. The house was vacant but was to be occupied soon, Considerable damage was done.
The Pleasant Sunday Afternoon club of the Union church meets every Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. All young folks, 14 and over, are cordially invited. The new officers elected are Sam. Goss, president; Preston Calhoun, vice-president; Agnes Martin, secretary; Robert Antoszewki, treasurer.
Mr. Michael Schinier, an old resident of Glencoe, died Friday, Feb. 14, at the age of 84 years and 6 months. Services were held Monday at the Sacred Heart church in Hubbard Woods at 10 o'clock. Interment was at Gross Point. Mr. Schinler is survived by five children, Mrs. Frank Schramm, Mr. Joseph and Michael Schinler of Glencoe, Mr. John Schinler of Wilmette and Mr. David Schinler of Chicago.
Mrs. B. G. Poucher was called to Milwaukee by the sudden death of her mother, Mrs. Holbrook, from heart failure. Mrs. Holbrook has been prominent for many years in the D. A. R. missionary and church circles in Milwaukee. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Arthur Holbrook, her two daughters, Mrs. B. G. Poucher, of Glencoe, Ill; Mrs. T. H. Spence, of Milwaukee and her two sons, Dr. Harold E. Holbrook and Dr. Arthur T. Holbrook, both of Milwaukee.
The Missionary society of the Glencoe church met at the home of Mrs. George Pope. There were forty-five present. A collection of $38 and also many bundles of clothing was taken up for the Bement sisters in Shao-wu, China. One of these sisters is a doctor and the other is head of a school. Both are graduates of Oberlin college. The ladies of the guild sewed on towels for the hospital. Mrs. George Pope and Mrs. Holmes gave short talks and Mrs. D. C. Clarutt played. Dainty refreshments were served in the shape of delicious French cakes, tea and coffee.
The Men's league of the Glencoe Union church held an enjoyable meeting Monday evening, Feb. 10. The president, Mr. Hall, secured the services of Mr. Olson of Chicago to lead in the singing of old familiar songs. These and the solos given by mr. Olson were greatly enjoyed by the men. Each man wore a tag in his buttonhole on which was inscribed his name, how long he had been a resident of Glencoe and his former residence. In this way newcomers were readily identified and all enjoyed the pleasant fellowship. The evening was concluded with light refreshments.
