- Grace Quinn of Kenilworth was one of 38 high school seniors in Illinois and one of 520 in the United States,to earn a Certificate for Superior Writing from the National Council of Teachers of English for the 2011 Achievement Awards in Writing. Quinn was nominated during her junior year by English teacher Michael Gombac. National Merit Scholarship Semi-finalists for 2012.

They are: Mark Anderson of Lincolnshire, Kevin Boldingh of Arlington Heights, William Bonnel of Glencoe, Anlil Brikha of Lincolnwood, Michelle Cabahug of Skokie, Conner Croft of Glenview, Clare Dowdle also of Glenview, Bridget Galassini of Northbrook, Thomas Gordon of Glenview, Elise Gruber of Chicago (60646), Simone Gruber also of Chicago (60646), Eric Hauser of Lake Barrington, Daniel Hayes of Northfield, Malcolm Hirsch of Wilmette, Kathryn Hughes of Highland Park, Charles Jordan of Wilmette, Patrick Kearney of Deerfield, Daniel Leemputte of Lake Forest, Robert Perry of Winnetka, Casey Shearson of Kenilworth, Brittany Solinski of Niles, Mary Grace Weiss of Kenilworth, Nolan Winkler of Evanston and Claire Wojnicki of Chicago (60631).
Ariel Reid of Northbrook was named a National Achievement Scholarship Semi-finalist. Austin Johnson of Libertyville was designated as a National Achievement Program Outstanding Participant Referred to Colleges.
Seven Loyola student-musicians auditioned for placement into the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA): trombonist Jeremy Andrin of Golf, flutist Jeeahn Ko of Skokie and trumpeter Katy Rose O’Brien of Evanston. The other October participants included trumpeters John Dombrowski of Chicago (60646), Danny Martin of Northbrook and Harrison Swanson of Glenview and percussionist Ian Pappas of Park Ridge. - Date of Publication
