WILMETTE LIFE May 28, 1926 SUBMITS REPORT OF STATE P. T. A. MEET I Mrs. Kendrick, Delegate to Parent-Teachers' Association Convention Reads to Women ~<1TE : The report of the . I believe that at every session every speaker stressed the fact that the first six years are the permanent directive force of a child's life. The story is told of the. architect . who, seeing the foundation the builder had put in said, "Make it larger ," and \vhen finally it met specifications sa id , "Now go as far as you like." The de sire to do well bv vour chitdren is perhap s the mo st ·u,;iversal of all human aspirations. Nevertheless, parents are everywhere perplexed . teachers are puzzled and often discouraged, promising welfare programs are wrecked and whole communities arc baffled by the ever recurring prob!ems oi childhood and youth. New and better approaches to the se. problems mu st be found . The essential fact s must be ascertained and the aims clea rlv defined. And as we listened to the speakers who arc studying the various problem s and children 'w ho pass through their hand s we realized the eve r increas in g sy mpath etic under standing which should exist between parent and child. Dr. C .R. Griffith of the University of Illinois, in his address on "The Business oi Parenthood," said the relations gf parents and children should be an intimate personal organism and that we as parents have the bu s ine ~s of living well to keep unsullied the stream of life. Then Dr. Thrasher of Illinoi s \V <: ~ !cyan unin·r sity spoke on the "ubjtct "\\'hat is th e matter with our youn~ people." 11r ~. B. F.
