August Z'/, 1926 Canvass W'ilmette:as . Location of Postal Telegraph Station T_he first steps towards the possible entry of the Postal Telegraph company into Wilmette was taken Tuesday, it is said, when a representative of the company came out to Wilmette to go over the matter, rather informally but sufficiently to be able to make some sort of recommendation to his company. The matter of bringing Postal service more directly to the north shore section was taken up with ]. C. Nerring, general SU.Perintendent, in Chicago, a few days by Paul Schroeder. Mr. Nerrring's representative spent the day here Tuesday, and in company with Mr. Schroeder visited Hubbard Woods, Winnetka, Kenilworth, and \Vilmette, including the newly acquired territory of the latter village to the west, where great expansion in the future is anticipated. Mr. Schroeder says Superintendent Nerring's representative met with encouragement in the project throughout the business circles of the area visited, and while he admitted that a Postal office at the outset would, in all probability, not prove a paying venture, yet he expressed hearty approv~l of the suggestion by Mr. Schroeder that arrangements be made by the Postal company for free telephone service from nearby villages to the present nearest Postal office which is in Evanston. Later, as the patronage increased, the matter of a Postal Tete. graph office here would become a necessity. And that, it is said, is the recommendation 'V.·hich has gone to the general . superintendent In Chicago.
