An enormous set, one of the most elaborate ever built for comedy purposes, was erected for the technicolor sequence. It represented a medieval castle, complete with moat, courtyard and garden. Full-grown fruit trees were erected in the garden, and by the magic of the movies' "back-stage" wizardry, were made to bloom although the date was mid-December. In this exotic setting, Langdon and Alma Bennett enacted a series of romantic scenes which form one of the deliciously appealing highlights of the picture, which Harry as an adolescent dreams. An entire grove of trees crossed the Atlantic to appear in "Flesh and the Devil," Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's dramatic European romance coming Monday to the Varsity theater. A grove of genuine German linden trees was imported and transplanted at the tudios for the garden scenes in which John Gilbert, Greta Garbo and Lars Hanson take part, in the new production. It is a vi\'id drama of continental Europe, adapted from Sudermann's .. The Undying Past,' and directed by Clarent.:e B.rown.
