Caldwell meets Joe Thelen in the next round and this ma:tch ought to decide the winner of the upper· bracket, excluding John Iliff who will no doubt give everyone a lot of trouble. The Women's Tournaments have been going slow. The only girls' matches to be· played follow: Ruby Jannes defeated Kathleen Welter 6-0, 6-1; Lorraine Jannes defeated Betty Barney 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Thert~ were some unexpected upsets but when the matches were over there were many opinions changed. In the boys' singles Jim Corns, last year's champion. successfully turned back Ray Kimball 6-0, 6-1. It was Jim's match all the way, Kimball winning onl~: the fifth game of the second set 'a nd seldom pressing Jim to deuce. Jerome Cicchini, la st year's runner-up. overwhelmed Lowell Johnson 6-2, 6-1. Jerome is in the upper bracket and Jim Corns in the lower bracket.
