The platform, It will be noted, Is Identical with that formulated by the People·s party. of 19!7 which carried Its ticket, headed by VIllage President Earl E. Flab We are in favor of keeping the Village of Wilmette a community of homes and to that end favor the enforcement of tl:~ letter and spirit of the present building and zoning ordinances. Pahlic Utilitia The franthise of the Public Service Company of Northern Illinois will expire in 1928. In the negotiations for the new franchise we favor the securing of the lowest possible rates for gas and electricity without impairing the quality of the same or the servic.e in connection therewith. The Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad has been operating its trains through Wilmette without franchise for several years. This condition should be remedied at once, the Village being entitled to the protection of a franchise, and the company required to pay the Village reasonab'e compensation for the use of its streets in the interim. Grade Separatioa Papaatoay 1135 Ceatral Avenue Soas Phone Wil. 154-1361 We favor the continued co-operation of this Village with other Villages along the Chicago & North \Vestern Railway in the present negotiations with that line for the development of the best practical plan for the separation of the grades. After being loca.~ed at 1185-1187 Wilmette Ave. for five years it was found that the progress and increase in business has been so great that their present location did not provide facilities for conducting a store of this size in the manner which it should be conducted. 'fhe new store will he located at 1119-1121 Central Ave. The building will cover an area of 50 by 100 feet, or 5000 square feet. T·he store itself will be 31 by 100 feet, and a store that will be rented for commercial purposes will be 16 by 60 feet. T.he rear 40 feet will be used by the WoUf-Griffis Store as office and checking room. There will be eight apartments of the kitchenette type. The building is entirely fire-proof, and constructed with strict attention to . minor details that help to make the perfect buildina-. The greatest advantage the new building wiD have over the old store is the aquisition of a basement. and shop. The old buildina- did not take care of either of these two necessities. The shop will be connected to the new store, while the part of the basement wiD be used as a display room for the lawn swings and furniture. The rest of the basement will be used as a stock store room. The store fr~t wa~ selected by the National Retail Hardware Association. as being practical as well u Stnets · ·we favor the reconstruction of certain of our streets and the paving of others' as rapidly as the interests of abutting property owners require. Diapoeale We favor the securing of a suitable site and the erection of a garbage disposal plant and suggest in the interests of economy. the idea of a plant in common with one or two of our adjacent Villages. PlaJpMad aad Recnatioa Board We favor the continuation of the Playground and Recreation program in effect for several years past. We favor the acquisition and development of playgrounds for the children to the extent of the funds available for that purpose and the exten!iion of the Recreation program in keeping with public demands and interest displayed. Willaette PJaa c-·i·liea Rep...l P1·-·a AuociatiWe favor the further co-operation of the Village Administration in the plans of the two bodies mentioned except insofar as any immediate work or development along these lines shall come without the immediate and proper development of newly annexed territory and in the placing of additional tax burdens upon those affected. It is understood, however, that in the development of this new territory that the Village Administration will bear in mind the recommendation and plans of both these commissions made thus far, more particularly the early completion of the Main Street project. Admiaiatratioa \Ve do not favor the creation of another Village office, that of Village Manager, with the view of employing a technically trained manager (presumably a non-resident) to superintend or supersede the heads of the present departments of the Village Government. We believe that this procedure materially increases the cost of Village administrative expense without corresponding benefit. We further believe that our present form of management is in every way an efficient and economical type of Village Government. . c--.. Further, that all plans and ideas without the meaning of this immediate development and improvement and the taxation necessary in connection therewith be considered only at such a time as this program is well completed.
