. For the May meeting of the Legion Auxiliary, Post No.. 46, to be held Tuesday evening, May 1, at the Masonic temple, a most interesting program has 'been arranged. This meeting will be of unusual interest to members, as Poppy Day plans will be discussed, and the flag recently purchased by the unit will be dedicated. The dedication services are in charge of Mrs. Bessie Smith of Chicago, who is the National vice-president of the auxiliary. Special music has been provided ; an added attraction will be an informal ~,!llk on the "Art of Julian Eltinge," by Mrs. 0. G. Dailey, one of the members. "The banquet held May 19 for the national head of the auxiliary, Mrs. Walbridge, was attended by the president, Mrs. Arthur johnson, and Mrs. McArdle from the local unit. The auxiliary is justly proud of both the. ~ce an~ war record of its nati~:...wesidertt. Mrs. Walbridge h~s be~rt ~ a· "promi~ent speaker at various conventions since her election to the . presidency; she spoke at the National Defense conference held recently in Washington, and at an Eastern mili·tary school-the first woman accorded this honor. In the war, as a member of the Salvation Army, she spent 256 days under fire, was once gassed, and has ·two decoration~ to attest her valor in service. At the National Defense Congress, the Legion Auxiliary had by far the largest delegation ; the D. A. R. ranked second in a.ttendance. Among the prominent men and women addressing the meeting were Mrs. Walbridge, Mrs. Brosseau, National Regent of the D. A. R. ; Senator James A. Reed of Missouri; Secretary of War Dwight F. Davis; General John j. Pershing; Maj. Gen. Chas. P. Summerall, Chief of Staff of the U. S. Army, and Curtis D. Wilbur, Secretary of the Navy. The . Convention went on record as favoring the pending navy program, providing for an adequate nav~ and· " THIS IS THE. Inasmuch as on Poppy Day the Legion and Auxiliary seek support from the public for their service work, it seems fitting that they give back to the public an account of the expenditure of the fund. To this end the treasurer, Mrs. S. Van lnWagen, submits this report, showing the channels of · disbursement of this fund by the local Auxiliary unit, since Poppy Day, 1927.
