Hecht, 1042 Greenwood avenue, returned to Wilmette early this \veek from Galena, Ill., where she was summQned by the death of her father, Capt. George A. Schneider, veteran Mississippi river pilot, who passed away Tuesday, May 8, at Lyons, Ia., at the age of 76 years. Services were held Friday, May 11, from the family re'~idence at Galena, and burial was in that city. Captain Schneider was one of the pioneer steamboat pilots on the Mi·s sissippi, and, although well advanced in years, remained at the helm of a stern-whee ler, of the Lyons, Ia., port until the day of his death. In recent years he had been engaged in the sand ancl gravel trade with his ,s ons, George and Frank Captain Schneider survived hi·~ wife hy the brief span of five months. Mrs. Schneider passed awav . in Dubuque, Ia .. las·t December. · Surviving Captain Sch-neider are three sons, Arthur. George and Frank; and three daughter s, '\fr s~ Frank Dunncheck, Miss Anna Schneider, and M rs. M. . H ccht.
