June l, 1928 . WILMETTE be kept off the street unless lead at the end of a leash. President Orner's proclamation follows: "Whereas in the judgment of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Wilmette, it is necessary for the safety of the in_habitants of tl!e Village that all dogs running at large within the corporate limits of Wilmette .shall be muzzled. "Therefor {n conformation with the duty imposed upon the President of the Village by Sec. 7 of Chapt. 18 of the Revised Ordinance of the Village of \Vilmette, I hereby direct that from the date hereof until the first day of October, 1928, the owners of all dogs so running at large shall cause all such dogs to wear a good substantial wire or leathe r muzzle secure ly put on so as to prevent them from bitil)g. "Dogs found running at large in any of the streets, alleys or public places of the Village of_ Wilmette after June 1st, 1928, without a substantial wire or leather muzzle securely put on, will be taken up , impounded and if" not r edeemed within five days such dogs will be slain. Strict Muzzling of Dogs Ordered in Proclamation Because of the prevalence of rabies among the dogs in the Chicago and north shore area and the increased menace to the safety of the people of the Village, a proclamation prescribing the strict muzzling of all dogs allowed to run at large in the Village was issued this wee.k by Village President Earl E. Orner, becoming effective today.
