Phillips, Wilmette's hurler, held the enemy to five scattered blows while his mates collected a total of eight safe drives. Last Sunday's game, played on the Winnetka Playfield diamond, attracted the largest crowd of spec~!ltors that ever witnessed a baseball tilt on the north shore. The Wilmette boys were backed by a huge delegation of local fans. Ja_n~tz led the local attack with two hits while Smith, Bermeister, Braun, Tagtmeier, Gregg, and Phillips garnered one apiece. This Sunday the same teams hook up on the Village Green lot west of the Howard school for the second engagement of the pennant race which at this writing finds Wilmette topping the list with one victory and no defeats; Winnetka second with two wins and one defeat .. and Glencoe third with no victories and two setbacks. A silver cup is to be the coveted award to the winner of the ·three-cornered championship series. Marjorie Mitchell Summer Playground School Closes The summer playground school held annually at the Kenilworth community grounds and beach under the direction of Miss Marjorie Mitchell has just closed. With the help of Ralph Kline, a boy scout of Wilmette. several small children of Wilmette and Kenilworth learned to· swim. The children had two weeks preparatory training in the gymnasium at the grounds. In addition to her summer work, Miss Mitchell also conducts a junior and senior kindergarten during the winter months in the Episcooal church at Kenilworth. Here the children are t~ught how to nlay together and how to develop projects. These projects include the building of a miniature city apd the conducting of a toy store and postoffice to show the value of money.
