There is immediate need for relief in the West Indies . following the devasta~ing .hurricane. of last week, and the American Nat·onal Red Cross has appealed for voluntary contributions to the relief program, according to James B. Forgan. Jr., chairman of Chicago chapter, of the Red Cross. "The Red Cros·.s has given $50.000 and dispatched expert disaster relief workers to Porto Rico,'~ Mr. Forgan said. "Tons of foodstuffs. clothing and supplies have also been shipped to the islands. However, this is only a sma11 start since the preliminary survey made in the ·islands show need of a large relief fund such has been the heavy losses in life and property." President Coolidge Saturday requested that the Red Cross take charge of the relief program in the islands and at th~ same time placed at the organization's disposal any and all naval craft necessary to transport workers and supplies to the relief of the sufferers. Contributions to the relief fund should be sent to Chicago chapter, American National Red Cross, 616 S. Michigan avenue, }vf r. Forgan said.
