Hickory Trees Need · · Flowers Blooming_ Air, Space for Roots in Home Brighten The hickory tree is native to this part of the . country, some beautiful sptcirn.ens growing on the north shore. Unfortunate1y, the home owner often finds that after a vear or two the tree dies, apparently not from any disease or worm. The tree has prpbably been smothered' in the filling of the lot. The land in which the hickory is found is often low, and in fitling in the lot the tree trunk is buried one to ·three feet. Since the hickory is a delicate tree it can not stand to be buried so deeply but must be welled ar_ ound with brick. NEW ·NOTE ·_. 1-N·. DRAfES Tapestries From , India 'Oifer W~ Varietr of Uaea for Autumn Season of Interior Deeoration. · Imported tapestries from India are finding vogue wit~ _the fall d~cora~or as a new arid ongmal mater1al w1th which to dress ·windows. The Tree of Life and other elaborate designs were first used but now the latest imports come in small all-over designs which allow the decorator to cut them to a suitable length. The curtains serve in the sun room, breakfast room, or bath room, and most charming of all are the matted wool rugs which go with them. · The wool is held together with the elaborate chain stitched design which may correspond in color and design with the curtains. The walls of a bath may be painted, as was one I have in mind, from the design on the rug. This · bath was tiled up five feet, the mural taking up the rest of the space to the ceiling. . To go back to the curtains, they are made on heavy muslin or mohair and the designs are stitched on them in light wools. For use in any other room than those mentioned, it may be teo stiff and heavy as a drape or the light color of the background may not harmonize with the rest of the furnishings.
