Ravinia, W ednesday, November 7. The Tenth District announces that it is very happy and proud to have its opening meeting of the year at the new Village House of Ravinia with its attractive setting. A word of information about this great CIVIC achievement may be of interest to those outside of Ravinia. The new ViJJage House was made possible by community spirit in Ravinia. A committee at large with all of the organizations of Ravinia represet.ted therein raised over one-half of the cost of the Vittage House which was needed in order to enable the school board to go ahead with it. The school board was able to pay for the remainder. The building has a large auditorium, seating five hundred, with a balcony seating one hundred more. There is also a beautiful music room seating two hundred. Besides the auditorium downstairs, there is an Art room and a large kitchen with equipment, attractive china and glassware included to provide for three hundred. The stage has dressing rooms and all facilities for theatricals. The ceilings are beamed and fireplaces are attractive features of each · room. James Cady Ewell, one of Ravinia's well known artists, has made the designs for the murals which will decorate the space over the stage. The new Village House serves every community purpose. It is for mee\ings of all of the organizations, social and other gatherings as well as serving the school for a gymnasium and for plays put on by the children. It is a community house in the fullest sense of the word witl\ every member of the family using it. Architecturally the new Village House, the exterior of which was designed by Lawrence Bock, well known architect and artist of Ravinia, is one of the most artistic public buildings on the north shore with its low gabled roof line fitting into the woodland setting. Ellery Walter Is to Speak·at Club Author of "The World on One Leg" to Tell Dramatic Story to Woman's Club Ellery Walter, young American author, will tell his dratnatic story before members of the Woman's club of Wil mette next Wednesday during the afternoon program commencmg at 2 o'clock. Mr. Walter, termed "the supreme adventurer," returned from an extensive toqr of England and the continent in late September. He is the author of the recently published book, "The World on One Leg," which is beginning to attract wide attention. Ellery Walter will tell of the amazing experiences which befell him, when, after losing one foot as the result of an infection contracted in a rowing shelt' at the University of Washington, he set out without funds on a world tour on one leg. Those who have read the book know it is 1\ · thrilling and inspiring story and Mr. Walter ma~s this story doubly interesting when he tells it to an audience. Wh~n 14 years old, he was left an orphan and it became necessary for him to work his way through both high school and college. In 1924 he entered Washington university, earned a teaching fellowship in psychology, worked eight hours at night to help pay expenses, turned out for crew, was president of his class, and besides all this, kept his grades up to Phi Beta Kappa standing. After battling for his life on his mcomparable tour of the world, Mr. Walter returned to New York penniless. While a taxicab with a rapidly working meter waited for him, he sold his first articles to a publishing firm and was able to more than pay his taxi bill and to get, at least, on his fina.ncial feet. Ellery Walter has a man's courage combined with the impetuous vision of youth which sees only victory. He had the privilege of extensive interviews with Mussolini, the Pope, Lloyd George, and President von Hindenburg.
