January 25, 1929 WILMETTE lock., - till .Berol and Thompson, the New Trier guards, through the wonderful support of their teammates each sank a beautiful short shot t~ give the Indian Hill boys a 12 to 8 edge as the .. quarter closed. In _the second quarter the visiting boys continued on their shooting rampa~e, with Captain Saxtoii and Reed ea~h adding two ringers to the New Trier score, while the Evanston scoring machine failed to .function quite as wen as it had been in the first period and so the half closed with New Trier on th~ top of an 18 to 11 count. The second half as very much a replica of the first with both tea:ns playing a speedy brand of ball, although Evanston was unable to account for as many baskets as their opponents, for the home team made but eight points in this half whereas New Trier chalked up twenty points. With Captain Saxton and Hank Hart of New Trier each doing some fine shooting from the time the second half started until they were taken out, the Orange and White were not once able to come near threatening the visitors and with New Trier's second team in the fray against them as the ba.tle ended, Evanston was pushed into a 39 to 17 defeat. The heavyweight game, which was LIFE New Trier Divid· esin Cage Encounter With Evanston High By Winalow W rirht New Trier's cage team journeyed to Evanston last Friday night, where they met the Evanston quintets against whom they split even in a double header bill. The New Trier lights, who di5played their best basketball so far this season, were able to outshoot and outplay the unbeaten Evanston ponies and whip them by a 38 to 7 count. The Grey and Green heavies, however, found tough opposition in the Evanston heavies, who also have a clean slate thus far this year, and the New Trier five were .5ubmerged in a 25 to 14 defeat. In the lightweight game, which was the better of the two contests, plenty of action took place in_the first quarter, for both of the teams did some fine passing and ·made the majority of their shots. Hart of New Trier startl:'d things off by making two free throws before the quarter was a minute old, but T. Snead of the Orange and White immediately tied the score up with a nice short shot. For the rest of the first period until the last minute or so, the count remained a dead- a diff-erent story- as far as N.e.w Trier was concerned, started off somewhat slower than the pony gatpe until fin_ ally Hoagland ·of the Grey and . Green made a one-handed shot which gave New Trier the .only lead which they had at any point of struggle. Evanston quickly came back and tied the score and forged ahead of their rivals and with Captain Nel15on of New Trier put out of the game on personal fouls before the half was up Evanston did about as it pleased. Coach Grater of New Trier towards the end of the contest sent in many substitutes in the hope that they would be able to find the baskets but their efforts were of no avail and Evanston triumphed 25 to 14. ihen WIN SCHOLASTIC HONORS Two Wilmette students, Edwin Comfort, 812 Prairie avenue, and Marie J.
