· &hool Ne~ VOL. 2, NO.2 Latest j JUN·IOR ··L IFE 1 Told by the Pupils Publuhed weekly by tbe achool children of Wilmette under upervision of Wilmette Playground and Recreation Board WILMETTE, ILLINOIS, ·FEBRUARY 22, 1929 Thursday, F ebruary 14, I visited the Northwestern Observatory. I arrived a Jtttle early and had to wait about fiv e minutes and we were the n admitted. The telescope magnifies seven hundred times. As there were only a few people there we were shown the moon. We firs t looked through the finder , a smalle r telescoptt which is used to locate the object The moon was fully shown and was very plain. The crate r s and depressions were shown · very plainly. The next thing I saw was Jupiter, the largest of the planets. A s I looked through the tinder Jupiter and four of its moons were visible. The cloud bands stretching a cross the plane t w er e visibl0 only at times as the gas and other things would shut off the view. We were then shown the Nebulae in the constellation Orion. Nebulae are composed of helium and hydrogen. 'l'he middle star of Orion's sword is re :1.lly composed of six little stars. The Nebulae are just above the six stars and look somewhat like a white cloud. 'l'he air was disturbed and Mars was not very plain.-Harry Minor, 7 A Stolp Janet Gets Inside First Team Wins All, But T el,ls A bout Visit Seconds Reverse the Order Information About .
