Pursuant to these instructions, your committee hereby respectfully '.mbmits this report. Praise for Assessor We feet that under the present antiquated laws relating to the assessment of property for general taxes, and the practical difficulties encountered by the Town'3hip Assessor in attempting to follow the law and still arrive at equitable valuations which will produce a iair tax, the people of New Trier Township should congratulate themselves for having had the services of such a conscientious ~sses'sor as the present incumbent. With the limited funds available for the purpose, he has done all that could be hoped for towards determining reasonably equitable valuations. It has been impossible for him to personally inspect every building in the township at the time of each quadrennial re-valuation, so in most cases he has been obliged to use the same building valuation as was used during the previous quadrennium with the result that many of the older building3 are on the book<; on a pre-war basis of values while the newer buildings are on the a ~ecluded community, books on a present-day basis of values. five minutes ride to The assessor · ha·s, however, made it a stations a n d acboola, practice of obtaining lists of permits by p t i v a t e motor issued for new buildings each year and coaches. then personally viewing and determining valuations for such buildings.
