It is from this group that the play will be chosen for entrance in the Drama league contest. In their selection the sponsors have wisely taken plays that offer broad contrasts in setting, tempo, and acting. "Gringoire, the Ballard Monger," is a charming little skit ·with an historical background of medieval France. It is based upon an incident in the poet's life, an incident in which a girl and a king play very important parts. In history we are apt to hear more often of royal misdeeds than those of any othe_r type. In "Gringoire," however, it is demonstrated that "Kind hearts are more than coronets," and a king is shown as a verv human figure. "The Pot Boiler," on the other hand, has to do with a rehearsal. Takr a temperamental playwright and add a cast of tempermental actors and actresses working on one of his playsand you have a very amusing result: at least, Alice Gerstenberg has found a good deal of humor in the situation.
