At the graduation exercises at New Trier High school the other night, !he graduates entered from two opposite doors and walked slowly, in two long lines, through the large hall to the stage. Each girl carried a small bouquet of sweet delicat~ flow ers. There were as many varieties of these bouquets as there were girls and the proces sion of the graduates was like a procession of youths and maidens of long ago, each maiden carrying her votive offering, a perfect bouquet to the shrine of SC?me goddess. We ~ere so busy admiring the bouquets that we almost missed the boys and girls. Like other parents, I was remembering my own high school graduation, over a quarter of a century ago. Ours was held in the Auditorium in Chicago and we , too, had a long line of graduates. The girls wore organdies and batistes trimmed with narrow laces and insertions. The collars of our dresses were high, the sleeves tight and the skirts long with even hems. Many wore their hair in long braids. \Ve carried no flowers, but after us, a separate procession of flower girls in light colored gowns, chosen from the under graduates, in their turn, came slowly up the aisles of the Auditorium carrying in their arms our flowers_: quantities of bright pink and cream colored peonies and long stemmed red r?ses.
