In addition, he initiated the system by which electricity is produced and distributed for light and power. These inventions marked the beginning of widespread changes in living and working conditions. Cities have been transformed; hon1es hav~ been 1nade more beautiful, more comfortable, more healthful; travel has becon1e 1nore rapid, safer and n1ore enjoyable; enlightentnent has spread; amusements have multiplied; the opportunities for useful employment have been widened imn1easurably; and innumerable conveniences that were unknown have become commonplace. The old 'Dutch Mill of the Fox River Valley is shown in resplendent relief -one of the many striking effects achie~ed through modem illumination. ....
