Groups Rehearse for X mas Festival MEET AnENDUCE PRIZE Forty-Seven 'Scout Leaders From Area Attend Conference in Chicago The "Scouters," comprised of volun . teer adult leaders of the North Shore Area Scout council, repeated their feat of last year by again winning the ban ner for largest delegation in attendan ce at the Council Officers Training conference and Regional meeting held at th e Edgewater Beach hotel, December 3 and 4. The local council had fort yseven men in attendance. The Chicago council had the next largest grou 1.· Scouters from the four states of Regi on Seven, Michigan, Indiana, Wiscon sin and Illinois, gathered to develop plan ~ for the next year to exchange ideas. to discuss problems and to recei\·e training in doing a better job for th e cause of boyhood. These men represented 106 councils and over 90,000 Scouts. Dr. West Preaent The National Council of Boy Scouts was well represented by eight leaders, including Dr. James E. West, chief scout executive; Dr. George J. Fisher, deputy chief scout executive; Arthur A. Schuck, assistant national field director, and E. A . Stowell, national personnel director. Walter W. Head of Chicago, president of the national council, presided as the conference wa s opened at the noon luncheon on Tues day. Dr. West also brought a mo t inspirational message. Dr. Fisher di~ cussed the aims and purposes of Scout ing. · 'fhe latter part of Tuesday aft ern 1011 was spent in nine different trainin g groups relating to the various counC'il problems. Each delegate chose the group he was most intere sted ·in. K:11 I D. King, president of the J\orth Shore Area council. was chairman of the group discussing "Council Administration." The other groups were "Busi ness and Finance," "Advancement," "Camping," "Public Relations," "Training," "Rural Scouting," "Sea Scouting" and "Scout Outfitters." 600 Attend Banquet The high spot of the conference was the Tuesday evening banquet. which was attended by over 600 men. Michael Gorman of Flint. Mich., was toastmaster and on his list of speakers were E. A. Stowell, Lyman L. Pierce, national camping director, 0. H. Benson, director rural scouting, A. A. Schuck, Dr. Fisher and Dr. \Vest. All of the speakers brought new high lights on national and regional progress and development. The forty-seven delegates of the North Shore Area council represented nearly every community in this area, which is regarded as indicative of a genuine L.terest in the advancement of Scouting in the district. Miss Betty DeBerard of \Vilmette returned to her home from the University of Illinois to spend the Than~s giving holidays with her parents. New Trier High school are holdmg datly rehearsals for the annual community Chr~st mas festival to be held at the htgh school Sunday afternoon, December 15, at 4 o'clock. The most difficult number ever at· tempted at New Trier so early in the year will be sung by a d.ouble chorus at the Christmas program. The nuJ?ber will be "Blessing, Glory, and Wtsdom and Thanks" by Bach, with the combined high school glee clubs singing chorus No. 1 and members of the · regular chorus singing chorus No. ?.. The girls' glee club of the school will sing Mendelssohn's motet, "Hear My Prayer/' with soprano solos by Katherine Ellis and Virginia Sprague. The boys' glee club will also have .a single number, and an octet from thts club directed by Miss Winifred Mickey will sing three selections. Meanwhile the New Trier singers a·re hoping that residents of the north shore will "tune up" their voices for the annual community sing. GUEST AT DINNER John P . Hooker, 600 Berkey avenue, Winnetka, was one of the group of former presidents of the Chicago R~al Estate board entertained by members of the organization at a turkey dinner on Wednesdav, November 27.
