Most of the damage was done Sunday, January 19, at the residences of E. A. Raventos, 426 Central avenue, and John Campbell, 815 Lake avenue. A defective oil burner in the basement of the 15-room Raventos home was the cause of the blaze there Sunday morning about 10 o'clock. The fire burned through the first floor partition and damaged the interior of the spacious residence. Fire Chief Walter Mr. and Mrs. M. LeRoy Minor, 929 Zibble estimated the damage at about Sheridan road, are entertaining for $6,000. their small daughter, Janet, tonight in At 10 o'clock Sunday night the firehonor of her eleventh birthday. Tuesday (;!fternoon caused a loss of about fifty dollars. The blaze was confined to the kitchen. The firemen answered two other calls at residences in the village during the last week, one at the G. R. Garretson home, 509 Linden avenue. on Wednesday and another at the Elmer L. Young home, 218 Dupee place, last Saturday. Paper rubbish near the furnace· in the Garretson residence caught fire, but the damage was slight. At the Young home a section of the furnace boiler broke, filling the hous_ e with steam. Varley, 1014 Oakwood avenue, a resident of Wilmette for the last seven years, died Friday, January 17, at St. Francis hospital in Evanston where she underwent an operation for appendicitis on January 3. Miss Varley was a member of the Wilmette Parish Methbdist church, having transferred her membership from the Irving Park Methodist church in Chicago several years ago. She was head of the third year division of the primary d.epartment in the \Vilmette Methodist church Sunday school, and was a past president of the \Vesleyan Service guild, formerly known as the Young Women's Missionary 'iOciety in the Wilmette church. As a Sunday school teacher an·i a leader in Epworth League work, ~[ tss Varley h:id always taken a prominent part in church activities. She had held two Epworth League sub-district offices and three district offices, and had taught at the Epworth League institute at Lake Geneva one summer. Miss Varley held a responsible position in the Chicago office of the American Telegraph and Telephone company. Surviving her are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Varley of 1014 O:tkwood avenue, Wilmette, and a sister, Mrs. A. G. Humphrey of Highland Park. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, January 20, at 2 o'clock in the Wilmdte Parish Methodist church and were conducted by the Rev. Hor:1ce G. Smith, pastor of the church and the Rev. Harold C. Case of the No;th Shore Methodist church in Glencoe. Burial took place at M.e morial Park cemetery.
