Elizabeth Buethe of Wilmette in Debate ·at ·Aurora Jan. 20 In behalf of the campaign for the bill granting women the right to sit on juries in Illinois, which will be voted upon in referendum next November, a unique debate on the question, "Shall women serve on juries in Illinois?" was given before the Business and Professional Women's club of Aurora at the Aurora City · club Monday evening, January 20, by Miss Elizabeth Buethe of Wilmette and Miss Matilda Fenberg of Chicago, representing the \Vomen's Bar association of Illinois. The negative of the question was presented in a lively spirit of satire by Miss Buethe, who painted an alarming picture of the incompetency of women on juries, and their physical, emotional, and intellectual disabilities that forever disqualify the feminine sex from assuming such responsibilities. The affirmative arguments were then ably and forcefully outlined by Miss Fenberg, who pointed out the method by which juries arc selected, what .the rules of eUgibility for jury service are and how these would effect women, and the practical advantages to be derived from women's votes in the jury box. "Those who are denied the privilege of serving on juries in Illinois, now, are aliens, minors, criminals, lunatics, and women," Miss Fenberg pointed out, "a classification ·we can hardly be proud SHOPPE MODISTE-DOROTHY ELLEN BROWN Daily-8:30 to 6-Saturdays-8:30 to 9 Mrs. May Cass Petersen of 417 Cumnor road, Kenilworth, is leaving tomorrow for Belleaire, Fla., to spend a month or two with her uncle, Joseph K.
