A nn011nce New · Illinois Map · Now Off Press Illinois' official highway map for 1930, brought up-to-date by the inclusion of the roads completed last year, has just come from the press and now is ready for distribution at the office of the division of highways here. This year's map is an improvement over the one issued last year in that it is somewhat smaller, and easier t o handle in the wind, though still a s easily readable as the old style. On the back of the map, the division of highways has printed information, condensed for quick reference, concerning th_ e state's highway system, and the state parks. One table shows that, as of January 1, 1930, there were 1,588.63 miles of state aid and 6,875.94 miles of state bond issue roads completed, making a total mileage of 8,464.57 miles of road open to traffic. Under contract on January 1, 1930, according to another table, were 49.18 miles of state aid road, 39.89 miles of bond issue road, 1.46 miles of state aid grading, 62,-55 miles of bond issue road s, 28 state aid bridges and 34 state bond issue bridges. Last year, according to th e map, Illinois built 742.91 miles of state bond issue aQd state aid roads. Th e state still holds three world's records in road building-1,305 miles of pavement faid in one year; 70_7 mile:-; in one week and 2,669 feet of 18-foot pavement in one day with on e mixer.
