Edwin W. Nelson, 69, of 632 Melrose Ave., Kenilworth, died Aug. 27 in Evanston Hospital.
He was chief engineer of the North Central Division, United States Corps of Engineers, until his retirement in 1966 after 40 years of service. Among his projects was the deepening of the channels linking the Great Lakes. He was also responsible for the U.S. engineering in the development of the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Mr. Nelson lived at 1335 Maple Ave. in Wilmette for 10 years before moving to the Kenilworth address.
He is survived by his widow, Mary; a son, David/ four sisters/ two brothers; and a granddaughter.
