"For many years the philanthropy department of 'The. Neighbors,' throughi its permanent Kenilworth Welfare committee, bas raised and distributed relief funds for this pur- pose quietly and cffectively. During the ýrecent period of stress, however, the local needs have so greatly in- creased that this public-spirited group cati no longer carry on its work with-. out organiÉed 'Support front the entire village. "In the latter part. of September the Kenilworth Welfare committee sent to al .residents of the community a circular letter appealing fo r funds. OnIy about$500 bas been received in response- to this appeal,ý although it seeffs certain that over $2,000 will be need ed for th e year. Kenilworth, therefore, faces the necessity of rais- ing at least an additional $1 '500 to meet its oWn local welfare responsi- bilities. M Meet to Plan Drive "Ï'Recognizing the two needs men- tioned above, a group of Kenilworth citizens met at the Assembly hall on the evening of October 28 and again at the residence of J. C. Carpenter, on the evening of November, 3; and formed a committee to direct an or- ganized campaign for funds in our village. This Kenilworth committee for the joint Fmergency Relief fund is planning its work in close coopera- tion iwtli the main Cook county corn- mittee.. The definite agreement r e- garding allotment of funds raised i I<enilworth is that the budget r-e quirements of the 'Kenilwortli Wel- fare committee for its local needs will have prior dlaim on aIl contributions. Onily the surplus beyond the amount of this local budget will be distributed for relief work in Chicago or* other Cook. county communities. Since the budget of the Kenilwoth Welf are commttee.will probably require only about $1,500 in addition.to funds on hand. it is confidently' expected. that a substantial surplus cati be made available for the main Cook counity conîmittee.
