Steffens, Maria (née Schoenborn)

Mrs. Maria Schoenborn Steffens, 1515 Wilmette avenue, Wilmette, is the oldest continuous resident of that village. She was born October 31, 1856, in a log house on the spot where she now lives and where most of her 83 years have been spent. Following her marriage on January 11, 1876, to Peter Steffens, she lived for a few years a couple of blocks from her birthplace, and then the couple occupied a new house with which they had replaced the log one.

It is a notable fact that of Mrs. Steffens nine children, all married, eight of them live on the same block where she still has her home, and the other but one and one-half blocks, away. There are 24 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Steffens is remarkably well preserved, and is possessed of a fund of reminiscences of Pioneer days. She was guest of honor at the annual banquet of Ye Olde Towne Folkes Association of Wilmette last May.
